چکیده

Blue iguanas ( Cyclura lewisi ) are endangered reptiles found only on Grand Cayman. Previously, DNA for a novel Helicobacter species GCBI1 was detected in sick and dead iguanas. In the current study, fecal cloacal swab samples were obtained from 25 Through molecular microbiological techniques, cultured feces characterized, whom we propose name cyclurae . This helicobacter had prevalence of 56% by PCR 20% culture analyzed. The type strain MIT 16-1353 catalase, oxidase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase positive. By electron microscopy, H. has curved rod morphology single sheathed polar flagellum. Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA, gyr B, hsp 60 indicated that these strains most closely related to sp. 12502256-12 previously isolated lizards. 1.91-Mb genome with GC content 33.37%. There 1,969 genes four notable virulence genes: high temperature requirement-A protein-secreted serine protease, transpeptidase, fibronectin/fibrinogen binding protein, neutrophil-activating protein. Whole-genome phylogeny, average nucleotide identity, digital DNA–DNA hybridization confirmed is species, first characterized blue

Activity patterns and foraging behavior of the endangered Grand Cayman blue iguana, Cyclura lewisi

—The historic rarity of the critically endangered Grand Cayman blue iguana, Cyclura lewisi, has prevented detailed research on this species prior to this decade. This study primarily used focal animal observations, transect sweeps, and radio-telemetry to document the behavioral ecology of a captive-bred, reintroduced population of adult C. lewisi in a botanic park on Grand Cayman. Activity budg...

Spatial Ecology of the Endangered Iguana, Cyclura lewisi, in a Disturbed Setting on Grand Cayman

—West Indian rock iguanas (genus Cyclura: Iguanidae) are among the most endangered lizards in the world, and many species will need to occupy human-modified and -occupied habitats to escape extinction. The Grand Cayman Blue Iguana, Cyclura lewisi, is critically endangered with fewer than 25 wild iguanas remaining. To aid the conservation of this and other iguanas, we investigated the spatial ec...

Habitat use of the endangered iguana Cyclura lewisi in a human-modified landscape on Grand Cayman

Cyclura lewisi is an endangered rock iguana endemic to the island of Grand Cayman. Like many other animals, C. lewisi increasingly depends on modified landscapes for its survival. The remaining natural population is too small and fragmented to yield information on the natural history and population biology of this species. Therefore, we studied habitat use in a population of captive-bred, relea...

Sinosporangium fuscum sp. nov., isolated from soil.

A novel actinomycete, A-T 8343T was isolated from a moist evergreen forest soil sample collected in the Trat Province, Thailand. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain A-T 8343T belonged to the genus Sinosporangium and was closely related to Sinosporangium siamense A-T 1946T (98.81 %) and Sinosporangium album 6014T (98.54 %). The DNA-DNA relatedness values were 21.8-27 % with S. siame...

Pseudomonas bauzanensis sp. nov., isolated from soil.

A Gram-negative, aerobic, motile rod, designated BZ93(T), was isolated from soil from an industrial site. The strain grew at 5-30 °C. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain BZ93(T) was related to members of the genus Pseudomonas and was related most closely to Pseudomonas xiamenensis C10-2(T) (97.8 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity) and Pseudomonas pertucino...
